    A woman who believes in a troubled child must go against the law in order to help her in this made-for-TV drama, inspired by a true story. Six-year-old Caitlin is a deeply disturbed child whose violent and disruptive behavior prevents her from attending school or day care with other youngsters. However, Special Education teacher Maggie Barnard senses that there is a great intelligence in Caitlin, and she believes Caitlin can be taught if someone can find out how to reach her. However, not everyone Maggie works with agrees with her assessment, and as she attempts to break through the walls of anger and abuse that surround Caitlin's mind, she must also do battle with a system that sometimes does more harm than good to kids.

    This is such a well done movie and is a movie that you find yourself watching again and again,theres just something so good about it!

    BASED ON A TRUE STORY, untamed love is about a 6-year old girl who vandlises property,sets other kids on fire and looks for affection. When caitlin eldrige is put into a class of kids, everything turns out worse, she won't have the teacher touching her or she kicks up, and throws pencils in the classroom. Her teacher, maggie is doing everything to help her and refuses to let her to go into care as she recovers love and affection from maggie. When the other kids begin to like caitlin, she becomes over what has happened and turns out to be a normal kid. GREAT FILM.

    I saw it on the television a couple of years ago. I loved it! About a young, very disturbed child who attacks other children, vandalises etc. As the child is put into a special needs class at school her teacher realises how hard it is to handle her and cope with her being in her classroom. Social workers decide its best to put her in care due toher behaviour. Anyway, as her school teacher begins to see a difference in her, how she comes out as a bright young child. She will do anything to keep her in her class, determined to help her and stop her from being put into care!

    The two begin to bond very well and wont give up on the child!

      "I myself think of Gerda often, particularly when I am at home in Montana. Particularly when the chokecherries are in bloom."

      Twilight Children was an education for me. Torey Hayden's true story was a page-turner, though I took longer to read it, unfamiliar with the kind of illness though quite different in all three of the patients.

      Let's call Casandra, patient #1; whom Ms.Hayden experienced the most challenging time with. Casandra speaks when she wants to. She is a confused and disoriented child whose erratic behavioral patterns transcend upon her after being kidnapped by her father.

      #2 patient is Drake, a very adorable and loving child who never speaks to anyone with the exception of his mother. He plays with the other children and is wiling to be around them cooperating and having a joyous time, but he never speaks. What could be wrong there, and is his obnoxious grandfather at the source of the handicap?

      I am so grateful that I found this book. I also read it in two days. My heart is still breaking for Cassandra. I pray that other children who have gone through similar situations will have someone like Torey Hayden to help them through the pain. I look forward to reading other books by Ms. Hayden. She is a blessing to those she works with directly and to those who read her books.

        This book is yet another outstanding account of Ms. Hayden's work with children. The children assigned to her resource room featured in this book are a 12-year-old girl who is pregnant; an 11-year-old boy who witnessed the murder of his father; a 7-year-old girl whose father battered her during her infancy causing severe brain damage and a 7-year-old boy whose behavior is described as autistic.

        In the interest of fairness, there is really no way for readers to "know" or declare how "pretty" any of the pupils are; this is not the place to proclaim "favorite pupils." Responding to the individual gifts each pupil had to offer is the underlying theme of this book. "Somebody Else's Kids" chronicles the lives of real people that most readers don't even know. In the interest of fairness, without personally knowing the teacher assigned to Lori, the 7-year-old, it is very easy to make a strong case against her based on her response to this child's academic needs.         Torey Hayden, author of "One Child," charts a year in the life of a special education classroom with some unusual and unforgettable students. They include Claudia, an academically gifted, pregnant twelve-year-old; Tomaso, who witnessed the death of his father; Lori, a girl whose abuse left her unable to read and write; and Boo, an autistic boy with a fondness for giving weather reports. How they bond, become a class, and deal with the largely unsympathetic outside world makes for a remarkable story. Even more gratifying is the epilogue, in which we learn that all four made gains after they graduated from Hayden's class, all quite remarkably.

        Somebody Else's Kids was the first book I read of Torey Hayden's. Since then, I have read her statement that this is the one book of hers that she cannot bear to reread as it was penned quickly and she doesn't like the writing.
        Maybe it was this perceived lack of "attention" to the writing dynamics that makes this book a little different than her others, and to me, a little more memorable.
        When looking into Ms. Hayden's works, the one most often cited is One Child. I have read this, as well as others such as The Tiger's Child and Ghost Girl, but Somebody Else's Kids just has a different feel to me - less forced, less heroic, just her work with very different children put together in the same classroom. The cases she refers to in this book are also quite different from the others she writes about (ie. elective mutism, autism), this time dealing with pre-teen pregnancy and illiteracy brought on by brain damage.
